In fact the material produced would be used for two or three “Classic” version of Nescafé. Below we show test material and shots from the set.The other commercial we shot during this period was Nescafé Gold.
Classic shot 25 – Fire and beans
The strength and duration of the flame is controllable. Camera was approx. 2 1/2 mtr. à 3 mtr. above the ground.
Classic shot 26 – Cascade of beans and aroma in circular motion, metal surface below
Four small conveyor belts to pour the beans… and the T-rex to make the turning.
Classic shot 27 – Coffee grinder
Classic shot 28 – Spinning granules Shot 37 powder (granules and powder versions)
We tried a full blown spiral into the lens and a kind of Milky Way saucer shape…
Classic shot 29 – Granules bouncing in cup Shot 38 Powder (granules and powder versions)
“Shot in a cut away mug. Camera rotates on it’s axis. T-Rex. Dolly in”.
Classic shot 31 – Water poured through granules on surface of liquid, Shot 39 powder (granules and powder versions)
Granules floating on surface penetrated by a stream of water
Classic shot 32 -Mixing granules Shot 40 powder (granules and powder versions)
Water and granules mixing to become liquid
Hot water makes the mix cloudy immediately. These two tests were made with cold(-ish) water.
Classic shot 34 – Tornado in cup
As if the coffee is being stirred but without the spoon. Light liquid grows slightly darker in the vortex. (tight?)
The amount of vortex is controllable as is the kind of foam. The vortex is made with a magnetic stirrer.
Classic Milk shot 42 – Milk and coffee collide
Camera looking along a surface of coffee as it is penetrated by a stream of milk coming from 45 degrees causing visual drama…
Classic Milk shot 43 – Milk and coffee perfectly
A stream of milk penetrates the coffee from above and spreads out after entry… Tank shot from the side…
Classic Crema shot 45 – Explosion of powder (cut away mug).
This could be done using a speaker or shot outside the cut-away mug…
Classic Crema shot 47 – Top shot taking coffee colour
45 degree top shot. Coloured liquid and white foam…
Classic Crema shot 48 – Spoon reveals coffee through cream
Classic Crema shot 49 – In cup, spoon stirring
This shot actually was used in the Nescafé Gold commercial, not a Classic commercial as was planned.
Classic 3-in-1 shot 51 – Milk and coffee collide under water
Black & white collide under water…
Two aquaria at … 50cm. wide x 20cm. deep x 28cm. high
Two aquaria at … 50cm. wide x 10cm. deep x 28cm. high
Classic 3-in-1 shot 52 – Sugar spinning downwards
“Conveyor belts & T-Rex”.
Is this a top shot?
Classic 3-in-1 shot 53 – Sugar, milk and coffee colliding
Continuation of 51 with the addition of brown sugar…
Classic 3-in-1 shot 55 – Water hits 3-in-1 granules dynamically
Powder and water MIX, in a glass…
We used an glass cut open at the side and two funnels, one for pouring hot water and one for adding foam. I have the feeling we’re a bit wide, but this system might work?
Classic 3-in-1 – Sugar cube
Classic 3-in-1 shot 56 – Close up
(These 3 tests show a possible approach to this shot).
Classic 3-in-1 shot 38 – Stirring and revealing
We hope to be able to make this shot in the same way as Classic Crema shot 48. We will pay special attention to the foam and texture guidelines from the PPM.
Roll over to view the product name…
We made a few foam tests before concentrating on the sfx testing. We have a large variety of different foams…
